SQL listenESS kew EL4 or listenSEE kwl or listenSKWEEL,5Structured Query Language6789 is a domain specific language used in programming and designed for managing data held in a relational database management system RDBMS, or for stream processing in a relational data stream management system RDSMS. In comparison to older readwrite APIs like ISAM or VSAM, SQL offers two main advantages First, it introduced the concept of accessing many records with one single command, and second, it eliminates the need to specify how to reach a record, e. Originally based upon relational algebra and tuple relational calculus, SQL consists of a data definition language, data manipulation language, and data control language. The scope of SQL includes data insert, query, update and delete, schema creation and modification, and data access control. Although SQL is often described as, and to a great extent is, a declarative language 4. GL, it also includes procedural elements. SQL was one of the first commercial languages for Edgar F. Codds relational model, as described in his influential 1. A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks. 1. Despite not entirely adhering to the relational model as described by Codd, it became the most widely used database language. 1. SQL became a standard of the American National Standards Institute ANSI in 1. International Organization for Standardization ISO in 1. Since then, the standard has been revised to include a larger set of features. Despite the existence of such standards, most SQL code is not completely portable among different database systems without adjustments. HistoryeditSQL was initially developed at IBM by Donald D. Chamberlin and Raymond F. Boyce in the early 1. This version, initially called SEQUEL Structured English Query Language, was designed to manipulate and retrieve data stored in IBMs original quasi relational database management system, System R, which a group at IBM San Jose Research Laboratory had developed during the 1. The acronym SEQUEL was later changed to SQL because SEQUEL was a trademark of the UK based. Hawker Siddeley aircraft company. 1. In the late 1. 97. Relational Software, Inc. Oracle Corporation saw the potential of the concepts described by Codd, Chamberlin, and Boyce, and developed their own SQL based RDBMS with aspirations of selling it to the U. S. Navy, Central Intelligence Agency, and other U. S. government agencies. In June 1. 97. 9, Relational Software, Inc. SQL, Oracle V2 Version. VAX computers. After testing SQL at customer test sites to determine the usefulness and practicality of the system, IBM began developing commercial products based on their System R prototype including System3. SQLDS, and DB2, which were commercially available in 1. SQL deviates in several ways from its theoretical foundation, the relational model and its tuple calculus. In that model, a table is a set of tuples, while in SQL, tables and query results are lists of rows the same row may occur multiple times, and the order of rows can be employed in queries e. LIMIT clause. Critics argue that SQL should be replaced with a language that strictly returns to the original foundation for example, see The Third Manifesto. A chart showing several of the SQL language elements that compose a single statement. The SQL language is subdivided into several language elements, including Clauses, which are constituent components of statements and queries. In some cases, these are optional. 1. Expressions, which can produce either scalar values, or tables consisting of columns and rows of data. Predicates, which specify conditions that can be evaluated to SQL three valued logic 3. VL truefalseunknown or Booleantruth values and are used to limit the effects of statements and queries, or to change program flow. Queries, which retrieve the data based on specific criteria. This is an important element of SQL. Statements, which may have a persistent effect on schemata and data, or may control transactions, program flow, connections, sessions, or diagnostics. SQL statements also include the semicolon statement terminator. Though not required on every platform, it is defined as a standard part of the SQL grammar. Insignificant whitespace is generally ignored in SQL statements and queries, making it easier to format SQL code for readability. Procedural extensionseditSQL is designed for a specific purpose to query data contained in a relational database. SQL is a set based, declarative programming language, not an imperative programming language like C or BASIC. However, extensions to Standard SQL add procedural programming language functionality, such as control of flow constructs. These include In addition to the standard SQLPSM extensions and proprietary SQL extensions, procedural and object oriented programmability is available on many SQL platforms via DBMS integration with other languages. The SQL standard defines SQLJRT extensions SQL Routines and Types for the Java Programming Language to support Java code in SQL databases. SQL Server 2. 00. SQLCLR SQL Server Common Language Runtime to host managed. NET assemblies in the database, while prior versions of SQL Server were restricted to unmanaged extended stored procedures primarily written in C. Postgre. SQL lets users write functions in a wide variety of languagesincluding Perl, Python, Tcl, Java. Script PLV8 and C. 1. Interoperability and standardizationeditSQL implementations are incompatible between vendors and do not necessarily completely follow standards. In particular date and time syntax, string concatenation, NULLs, and comparison case sensitivity vary from vendor to vendor. Particular exceptions are Postgre. SQL2. 0 and Mimer SQL2. Popular implementations of SQL commonly omit support for basic features of Standard SQL, such as the DATE or TIME data types. The most obvious such examples, and incidentally the most popular commercial and proprietary SQL DBMSs, are Oracle whose DATE behaves as DATETIME,2. TIME type2. 4 and MS SQL Server before the 2. As a result, SQL code can rarely be ported between database systems without modifications. There are several reasons for this lack of portability between database systems The complexity and size of the SQL standard means that most implementors do not support the entire standard. The standard does not specify database behavior in several important areas e. The SQL standard precisely specifies the syntax that a conforming database system must implement. However, the standards specification of the semantics of language constructs is less well defined, leading to ambiguity. Many database vendors have large existing customer bases where the newer version of the SQL standard conflicts with the prior behavior of the vendors database, the vendor may be unwilling to break backward compatibility. There is little commercial incentive for vendors to make it easier for users to change database suppliers see vendor lock in. Users evaluating database software tend to place other factors such as performance higher in their priorities than standards conformance. SQL was adopted as a standard by the American National Standards Institute ANSI in 1. SQL 8. 62. 5 and the International Organization for Standardization ISO in 1. It is maintained by ISOIEC JTC 1, Information technology, Subcommittee SC 3. Data management and interchange. The standard is commonly denoted by the pattern ISOIEC 9. Part n title, or, as a shortcut, ISOIEC 9. ISOIEC 9. 07. 5 is complemented by ISOIEC 1. SQL Multimedia and Application Packages SQLMM, which defines SQL based interfaces and packages to widely spread applications like video, audio and spatial data. Until 1. 99. 6, the National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST data management standards program certified SQL DBMS compliance with the SQL standard. Vendors now self certify the compliance of their products. 2. The original standard declared that the official pronunciation for SQL was an initialism es queue el. 1. Regardless, many English speaking database professionals including Donald Chamberlin himself5 use the acronym like pronunciation of sequel,2. SEQUEL. 1. 41. Design CCthen you have this interesting little panelcalled CC Libraries. And in this video I want to talk about some tipsand how tos in sharing Libraries with other CC users. In my CC Libraries panel I have been creatingspecial Libraries for my own useand to share with others for over a year, which is why I have a lot. Small business advice, news, and tools from Yahoo Small Business Advisor. Find articles, video, package tracking, loan calculator, and zip code lookup. Watch32 Watch Movies on Watch32. com Watch32 is the Biggest Library of free Full Movies. Watch 32 Movies Online. But if you dont have any,if youve never cracked open this panel,go ahead and choose Create New Libraryand drag some items into the Library panelfrom your document. Like in this one called GB whitepapers. Ive already dragged in some things, but I might, for example, what to includethe background color for my sidebars. So Ill double click this frame, and then click the little swatch icon down here, and then that grayscale color, I guess its 2. Colors. You can have Libraries that are per projector per client or your favorite stock photosor any combination of such. And what is very cool about Libraries, as I said,is that you can share them with other In. Design CC users. That is unlike the regular object Librarythat you can create from the File menu in In. Designthat is, because everything that you put into a CC Libraryis automatically synced with your CC space on Adobe servers. And so when you share a Libraryyou are allowing that person to see and copy those itemsin that Library from your space on the server. Its kind of like Dropbox if youre familiar with Dropbox. Now sharing is not the same as collaboratingand I have a couple other tip videos in the seriesthat talk about collaborating. Im just talking about sharing. Now before I talk about sharing Libraries. I think that it would help to understand sharing filesin Creative Cloud versus sharing Libraries. As I said, everybody has space on Adobe servers,so if you are logged in, as Im logged in now,and you go to the Creative Cloud app,go to Assets, click Files, you can see that you can chooseto view your files on your Folder, which means on your computer, or on the Web. Join David Blatner for an indepth discussion in this video 297 Share CC libraries with other users, part of InDesign Secrets. Download the free trial version below to get started. Doubleclick the downloaded file to install the software. If I go to Open Folderit jumps to my Creative Cloud Files folder, which is synced with my Creative Cloud cloud space. So all these files are synced up there. And if I want to I can right click on any one of these filesand choose Share Link. See its kind of really like Dropbox. I could also jump to see it in my webspaceor I can View File Activity. Let me go back to the Creative Cloud appand say lets look at it on the Web. So if I go to the Web it logs me into my webspaceand you see that I have Files, these match whats on my hard drive, theres a category for Mobile Creations, which I dont have much at all,and then theres a third category for Libraries. And this is what I want to talk about, sharing Libraries. So its different than files. You can share files with other peopleand they can just view the filesor download them, like maybe your clients and so on,but Libraries, when you share Librariestheyre mainly meant to share with other CC users. For example, freelancers that you want them to havea bunch of assets to work on a project with,or your coworkers if youre all workingon a new branding project,or youre the creative directorand you want all of the art directors to havethe current version of all the logos and such, then you might want to share Libraries. So this is showing me all the Libraries that I have. This matches what you see here in this drop down menu. Now remember, its not just In. Design. CC Libraries is in Photoshop and Illustratorand a couple other appsand they too will see the same named Libraries. But today were just talking about using them in In. Design. Some of these Library icons have little people on them, that means that I am collaborating with other users. Not the same as sharing, its very confusing. But we are not talking about collaborating, were just talking about sharing. So lets say that I want to share my GB whitepaper Librarywith a freelancer. With nothing selected here. I can go up to the menu and choose Share Link. Now I said dont select anything, because if I selected something, like say Cover, and then right clicked, and chose Share Linkit would only share that one Library item. I want to share the entire Library. So Ill go to CC Libraries, Share Link, and it brings me to my Creative Cloud space, and it says here is the Public Link, and if you like Adobe will send an email to the freelancer,or I can just copy and paste this linkand email it to them myself. Now Ive already done this, which is why this says Remove Public Link. Ive already shared it,so right not its a Public Link, its not private anymore. If I want to prevent people from being ableto view the items in this Library, including that freelancer,I can just click Remove Public Link. Im going to leave it as is. And I took a screenshot alreadyof what that email invitation looks likeand there is the URL. Now Im going to log outand then log back in as my freelancer,so you can see what it looks like from her end. Okay, I have logged out as my old accountand logged back in under a secondary CC accountthat I have named Anne, and Ive opened up that link from the email. Here is the GB whitepapers shared Library. And its the exact same items that were in the Librarythat the original person had, Adobe Anne Marie, and from here if I want to I can right clickand I can do a Save As, or I can double click on themand look at their specs. Im going to go back. But probably what I want to dois Im going to go back to the shared Libraryand choose Save to Creative Cloud. This is in effect taking a copy of the Librarythat the original person shared with meand saving it to my own Library. So after Ive done that Im going to jump over to In. Designand in CC Libraries look for GB whitepapersand there it is. And now I can use it in my own documents. So, for example, heres a sidebar,Ill drag it out. This was an In. Design item, which gets saved as a snippet. And if I want to fill a box with a color. I can choose it right from here, from the Colors. Now its important to remember thoughthat the original person just shared this with me,they didnt collaborate. And that means that if they updatetheir copy of this Library,if they put more items into this Library,I will not get notified that there are new items, and it wont automatically update. Its just a one off copy. Now Im actually going to go ahead and do that,I have another computer here that you guys cant seethats logged onto my original accountand Ive added a green swatch to the Library. Nothing is happening here in CC Libraries. You dont see anything new. If I jump back to the shared Libraryand I reload the page I can see its there. So the live link is still happening, the live share link is still happening, but Im never notified in In. Design that there is an update. Now that is different than if the original owner had chosento collaborate as apposed to share the link. If it was collaboratedthen I would automatically get this updated right here. Sometimes you dont want people to collaborate, you just want to share what you have. So what would happen here is that I would needto be notified somehow by the original personthat Ive added more items to this Library. And so as Anne Id have to come back to the share linkand choose Save to Creative Cloud again. Now this version 1. I really hope that they fix this in the future, but now I have two copies of GB whitepapers,it didnt prompt me to replace the existing one,and heres the updated one. So I could come back to this oneand choose to delete it in my server space or something, but it is kind of a mess. Anyway, but that is how shared Libraries work in In. Design. If you want to share all the assets, the Colors, the Styles, the Graphics with another person whos using CC,but you dont want them to havethe ability to edit that Library, then all you need to do is share the Library with themby choosing Share Link.
